I Don’t Want To Reconcile, I Just Want To Not Hate Them

by Ender Bowen / Tuesday, 16 September 2025 / Published in Forgiveness And Healing Excerpts

📖 Excerpted from God Jots: Forgiveness and Healing

Forgiveness ≠ Friendship Bracelets

Let’s kill the myth right here: forgiveness doesn’t mean reunion. It doesn’t mean trusting again. And it definitely doesn’t mean pretending like it didn’t hurt.

“Forgiveness isn’t about excusing their behavior but about reclaiming your freedom and emotional health.”

You can be done with a relationship and still be at peace with the person. You can forgive someone and never see them again. And honestly? That might be the most sacred act of self-kindness.

You Can Wish Them Well… From A Distance

Not every relationship is meant to be restored. That’s not bitterness. It’s clarity. It’s wisdom that says, “I’ve done what I needed to do. And now, I choose peace.”

“You’re allowed to feel bad about this, but you’re also allowed to move on. Beating yourself up won’t change it. Learning from it will.”

“You forgive someone else you are, in a strange and beautiful way, also forgiving yourself. You’re acknowledging that you don’t need to carry the pain anymore. You’re saying, ‘I’m worthy of peace. I’m worthy of healing. I’m worthy of letting this go.’”

This kind of forgiveness isn’t loud. It doesn’t post a status update. It just exhales. And moves on.

Trust Has To Be Rebuilt. Forgiveness Doesn’t.

You can release someone without re-inviting them. You can love them from afar. Or not at all. But what you can’t do is continue to sacrifice your peace in the name of appearing “gracious.”

“You’re not dismissing the pain or denying the conflict. You’re acknowledging that the good still matters.”

“I’m allowed to move forward. I don’t have to keep paying for something I’ve already made peace with.”

Forgiveness isn’t reunion. It’s release.

Why This Book Is A Lifeline For The Boundary-Builders

God Jots: Forgiveness and Healing doesn’t demand that you mend every relationship or hug it out with people who wrecked your boundaries. It doesn’t hand you shame disguised as spiritual obligation. What it offers instead is a mirror. One that lets you see your own worth, your right to peace, and your freedom to forgive without forcing connection.

“You’re going to mess up again. That’s just life. The point isn’t to be flawless. It’s to keep moving forward even when you stumble.”

That means you don’t have to keep returning to the same cycle just to prove you’re “nice.” You don’t have to overextend to earn closure. What you need is room to breathe, and permission to protect your peace.

“You can’t move forward if you’re dragging the past behind you. At some point, you have to decide that you’re worth more than your worst moment.”

If you’ve been stuck thinking reconciliation is required, let this book be your permission slip. Not to pretend it didn’t hurt, but to finally start healing without reopening the wound.
